ALL ABOUT SIZING and SHRINKING

SIZING YOURSELF DOWN

The "average" woman in America actually wears a size 14 and weighs 165 pounds, according to the New York Times.

SO what does 'normal' look like?? As a chubby woman, it is really hard to have a realistic perspective on how we look. It is easy to tell another person - oh, you look great, don't change a thing. If someone doesn't like you the way you are, then they don't deserve you! But that is a little cold.

We aren't taking into consideration the way the woman FEELS about her looks.

And as Billy Crystal wrongly said it: "It's not how you feel, it's how you LOOK!"
It is all about how we feel

If we can't feel good enough about ourselves to put ourselves 'out there', reasonably, a great many women feel they will never 'make' whatever it is they want to 'make.' And consequently we are defeated from the start.
The start of any relationship, any job, any project.

So let's get a good and reasonable perspective:

Generally, the difference between a women's size 18 and size 12 is approximately five inches. Although exact sizes vary from one clothing manufacturer to another, a size 12 is generally between 29 and 30 inches in the waist, while a size 18 is between 33 and 36 inches.

A size 10 in women's clothing is considered a medium. A woman wearing a size 10 usually has measurements of 36 to 37 inches for her bust, 30 to 31 inches for her waist and hips of 39 to 40 inches.

Over 62% percent of women in America wear a size 14 or larger, as District Chronicles reports. The "average" woman in America actually wears a size 14 and weighs 165 pounds, according to the New York Times.

What shouldn't Plus Size Women wear?

I have to work on getting into the 'large' size, still have a way to go.

On One Hand: Following the Rules

Plus-size women are often given a long list of fashion "don'ts." Traditional "don'ts" include: don't wear horizontal stripes--they make things look wider. Don't wear anything that breaks up the vertical silhouette, like a boot that's shorter than the hemline of your skirt or a cropped top. Don't wear sleeveless shirts or halter tops. Don't wear low-riding jeans. Don't wear leggings or pants that taper. Don't wear ruffles, don't wear chunky jewelry, don't wear big patterns and avoid shiny fabrics.

On the Other: Breaking the Rules

A lot of fashion advice for big women is centered on slenderizing the silhouette. Newer "fatshionistas" eschew these old chestnuts, finding no shame in their shape. Instead, they have a new set of "don'ts": don't wear shapeless clothing. Rather, find something with a little structure that follows your shape. And don't wear clothing that's too small--this is especially important for bras.

Bottom Line

Plus-size women should wear whatever what they feel confident in, regardless of the "rules." Forget chasing trends and focus on comfort and classic style. Look for clothes that are well made, conform to your shape, and please your eye.
